What's New in COBOL 6.5
DescriptionCOBOL 6.5 has been announced and was available June 13, 2025. It includes:
= exploitation of z17 hardware,
- VSAMDB support,
- user-defined types,
- OMITTED class test and OPTIONAL parameters changes,
- improved Integration with ABO and Z Code Optimization Advice – new SMARTBIN compiler option suboptions.
Other miscellaneous changes:
- z/OS versions supported
- IBM Z hardware supported ARCH/TUNE changes
- COBOL/Java interoperability changes
- COBOL Runtime updates
