“Zero-Cost, High-Impact: Modernizing RMF Reporting with ZOWE ZEBRA and Grafana”
DescriptionMainframe performance data is abundant—but often buried in legacy formats and inaccessible to modern analytics workflows. This session demonstrates how to unlock RMF Monitor III metrics using a fully open-source, no-cost solution built around ZOWE ZEBRA and Grafana. Attendees will learn how to extract SMF records, parse them with ZEBRA, define best practice RMF performance metrics guidelines with Microsoft Copilot and visualize key performance indicators like CPU utilization, dispatch delays, zIIP efficiency, and workload behavior using Grafana dashboards. We’ll also demonstrate how the Hitachi Mainframe Analytics Interpreter (HMAI) plugin enhances this pipeline by interpreting Hitachi mainframe array performance data.

We’ll walk through the full pipeline—from SMF extraction to ZEBRA parsing and dashboard design—highlighting how RMF Monitor III metrics map directly to actionable visualizations. The result is a transparent, scalable, and cost-effective observability layer for z/OS environments that bridges technical depth with executive clarity.

Whether you're a performance analyst, architect, or modernization lead, you'll leave with reusable templates, field-level mappings, and integration strategies to elevate your mainframe analytics—without licensing constraints or proprietary tooling.
